Practice makes perfect

Can one dance practice make a difference? Can one dance lesson make a difference? Absolutely yes!

Repetition over time is essential to perfect anything in life. This can be implemented in all areas of our lives. The quality of the practice session and the quality of the lesson is important to make breakthroughs and develop your dancing skills.

How do we get the most out of each and every practice sessions?
  1. Feel the practice session
Push yourself to get better than what you are now. Emotional and physically you must feel that you are solving a problem or overcoming a challenge. Practice with the intent to progress and improve your ability. When your practice session feel too comfortable you might slide back instead of improve. The practice session is to work on your skills so that you can enjoy it when it counts. Start off slowly and then increase your speed as you implement what you have learned.

2.  Be focused

Focus your practice session on what will make a difference for the next lesson or the event you will attend. Doing School Figures will give you the chance to focus on small changes and also do well in the more complex moves. When you are challenged with a complex pattern or difficult move, go back to the basics. When powerful moves become difficult to accomplish the solution will be to improve shaky basics.

Muscle memory is when you train your body to remember patterns, moves and position without you having to think about it. Your response time between thoughts and execution becomes shorter and the actual execution becomes more effortless. Your physical ability improve with techniques. Never cheat yourself with bad technique. What ever you do repeatedly will become a true part of you and no one can take it away from you. Continue to practice regularly as your muscles will forget and you will have to start practicing to recall what you have accomplished in the past instead of learning something new.

This is where "art" comes to play. Add styling to all your practice sessions as a sloppy body will keep you back and gives you more to work on than what is necessary. Implement all the features and characteristics of a dance and you should be able to express your dances with feeling and great poise. Arm styling and head styling also makes it easier to execute moves more easily. Above all you will look and feel great. Familiarize yourself with the dance characters and tell your story on the dance floor.

While gaining a skill takes work and effort it does not give you a reason to enjoy the learning process. It is always fun to learn something new. When you find something more difficult just remember you can slow down and go back to your basics and take advantage of School Figure practice sessions. Attend socials and unleash the potential within you. Socials are having fun while learning and practice without noticing that you are even having a practice session.
